Environmental Research & Assessment (ERA) was established in 1998 by Dr Colin Harris to assist international clients meet their obligations through provision of specialist environmental planning and policy advice, technical publications and reports, map products and information resources. Products are based on high-quality research and in-depth knowledge of environmental issues. ERA has special expertise and considerable field experience in polar and African environmental issues, and many of the principles and techniques are readily transferrable and can be applied in other contexts.
ERA maintains close links with specialists in government, industry, universities and environmental institutions worldwide. These links, coupled with access to outstanding environmental library and research resources, enable ERA to keep abreast of current issues and emerging trends. ERA is a small company highly responsive to client needs. Since ERA was established the company has appointed expert staff and engaged specialist subconsultants to provide a well-targeted, efficient and adaptable service of the highest quality. ERA currently has three full-time and one part-time Environmental & GIS Specialist staff working on polar and African projects, and an Accounts Administrator.
Colin Harris has more than 15 years experience in environmental management and GIS. He has authored numerous
reports and articles dealing with polar environmental problems, advised governments and industry, and co-edited the book
Antarctica and global climatic change. Colin was a Senior Associate of the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge, from 2001-06.

Katharina Lorenz has a degree in GIS & Cartography from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. She recently completed a glacier mapping project in the Everest region of Nepal using GPS and radar, and set up a practical GIS to assist coffee growers manage their crops near Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Katharina plays a key role in ERA's GIS analysis and map production work.

Rachel Carr joined ERA in 2008 after completing her MPhil at the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge. She worked with ERA on a range of GIS and remote sensing projects until she left to commence her PhD at Durham University on changes to the Greenland icesheet. Rachel continues to contribute to ERA projects on a part-time basis.

Lucy Waller joined ERA in March 2011 as our Accounts Administrator. Lucy has more than 12 years experience and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
